New 42nd Street Inc. / New Victory Theater: Education/School Engagement Intern (New York)

OVERVIEW
The BAI: College intern will work on the New Victory Theater Education/School Engagement team. New Victory School Engagement builds long-lasting relationships with school communities through free and low-cost performances, workshops, teacher professional learning and arts education resources. The intern will work across our school programs, supporting the preparation, implementation and evaluation of our New Victory Dance performances for summer school and camp audiences and collaborating with the School Engagement team to create educator resources. The intern will also have a chance to collaborate on other programs and shadow and observe workshops and events.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the School Partnerships and Ticketing team to prepare for New Victory Dance performance, creating pre-show reports and seating charts and communicate and collaborate with Front of House and Production Staff

  • Support school arrival and dismissal at New Victory Dance performances, collect student and teacher feedback after performances and learn how to welcome and support school audiences in a theater

  • Analyze and share kid and teacher feedback from the summer partnership program for evaluation and program improvement

  • Conduct dramaturgical research for New Victory productions

  • Brainstorm, draft content and edit New Victory School Tool Resource Guides in collaboration with Education staff

  • Support the upload, tagging, and organization of educator resources onto the online New Victory Arts Education Resource Library Other School Engagement Support

  • Support the purchase and coordination of materials for New Victory Classroom Workshops

  • Support the management of the online Teaching Artist toolbox, organizing and uploading resources for New Victory Teaching Artists

  • Participate in Education Department meetings, retreats and professional development

  • Meet with different Education staff members to learn about their jobs and career paths

    REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong research and writing skills

  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities

  • Passion for the performing arts and arts education

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

  • Experience in dramaturgical research or curriculum development

  • Basic knowledge of ticketing systems and theater operations

  • Familiarity with working with educators or school-aged audiences

COMPENSATION

  • $22.50 per hour

INTERNS WILL WORK 28 HOURS PER WEEK AND ATTEND A MANDATORY OFFSITE PROGRAM DAY ONE DAY PER WEEK WITH THEIR COHORT.

  • Internship Period: June 2 – August 1

  • Total Weeks: 9 weeks

  • Work Hours per Week: 28

  • Total Hours: 252

  • Workdays: 4 days per week onsite (Mondays – Thursdays)  

  • Work hours will be 9:30AM - 5:30 PM

PROGRAM DAY:

  • On Fridays, interns will attend an offsite program day with their cohort.

  • These hours are separate from the internship hours.
